Nails in the Wall, the Metuchen art gallery sponsored by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (17 Oak Ave. / Metuchen), will begin its 2015 Season Saturday, January 24, 2-5pm, with REVELATION / REVOLUTION. This exhibit will include work from twenty artists both from around the U.S. as well as outside the country, with art that focuses on the power of God’s Word.
The exhibit, which includes painting, photography, mixed-media and free standing sculpture, runs from January 24 through May 31, 2015.
Revelation / Revolution brings together art work reflective of the three great Faiths, those referred to as the “People of the Book”, Christians, Jews and Muslims, and the way each of their respective Scriptures (Revelation) call them to an interior change, a change of heart; that is, an interior “Revolution.” The title itself comes from the writings of Catholic Theologian Karl Rahner.
During the Opening and Artists’ Reception, an artist from each of the Faith Traditions will briefly speak about the way his or her own work addresses the theme of the show. Local photographer David Glasofer will reflect on his digitally altered photograph of a Bar Mitzvah, A Father’s Pride. Teaneck, NJ sculptor, Anthony Santella and the painter Sara Paige Hoag, Urbana, IL, will each speak about their work from a Christian perspective. And Shakil Kahn, Ontario, Canada, will be addressing his mounted canvas prints that combine Islamic Calligraphy and Christian crosses and their connection to the theme.
“We see the conversation that this kind of diversity invites at the very heart of the gallery’s mission,” notes Linda LaStella, Gallery Director.
“Our effort at Nails in the Wall is always to bring to the community of Metuchen and beyond high quality art in a distinctly but broadly spiritual context and are always delighted to be able to include the work of both local artists and international artists, as we have done in this exhibit,” acknowledges LaStella.
Additionally, Revelation/Revolution also includes the work of: South Orange collage artist Luis Alves; mixed-media artist Lauren Curtis, Somerset, NJ; Andrea D’Allesandro, photographer, Elizabeth, NJ; Sally Dill, mixed-media artist, NY,NY; Robert Eustace, mixed-media artist, Meadville, PA; Geraldine Fiskus, painter, Santa Fe, NM; Dwight Harris, photographer, Lambertville, NJ; Jennifer Moses, Montclair, NJ mixed-media artist; Nancy Ori, photographer, Berkeley Heights, NJ; painter Edward Ruggieri and sculptor Lisa Westheimer, both of West Orange, NJ; NJ Sculptor Susanne Davis; Michael Sweeney, sculptor, Middletown, CT; and David Teich, mixed-media, Roosevelt, NJ.
