I am trained as a painter and the practice and conversation of painting informs everything I make, though I currently work primarily in video and drawing.
I have always been drawn to question about authenticity. I have made delicate graphite drawings for over a decade of plastic tree parts that have been raw material for various projects.
Playing with our perception of the real or uncanny has informed much of my work:
BURAN, a 7 channel video installation with sound artist Ted Apel, is about the failure of the Soviet space shuttle Buran. I created models of the control room and collapsed hangar and simulated rocket fire.
The installation “nowhere more than here right now” took place in the freezing snowdrifts of winter and was composed of hundreds of hand cut blossoms tied to a barren fruit tree.
The re-presentation of the familiar so that it is strange stays at the core of my practice.
