Artist / Personal Statement
Ashley Olsen is a Denver based photographer who received her BFA in Photography from the University of Colorado Denver (UCD). Born in Denver, Colorado in 1989, Olsen first became interested in photography in high school through classes and workshops. As a student at UCD, Olsen has received national and local recognition for her scholastic achievements. Her awards include the Urban University Scholarship in 2008, an Academic Honors Scholarship presented by the University of Colorado Denver in 2008, and being on the College of Arts and Media Dean’s List since 2010. Her most prestigious scholarship was awarded by Artsbridge of America; a nationally renowned youth outreach program. This honor was awarded to Olsen twice, both in Fall and Spring of 2011. Most recently, Olsen was awarded the title Magna Cum Laude upon graduating from UCD in December 2012.
Olsen’s photography has been included in numerous group exhibitions through out the United States, beginning back in 2011. Her exhibitions include Eat Me at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles, California; UCD Juried Student Art Exhibition at the Courtyard by Marriott in Denver, Colorado; UCD Juried Student Show at the Emmanuel Gallery in Denver, Colorado and Inspired By Joy, presented by Stone Voices Online Gallery. Olsen received the award “Editor’s Choice” from Christine Cote for her image Red and His Accordion in the juried exhibition Inspired By Joy. This award led to her first image publication and article in Stone Voices art journal in June of 2012.
Throughout her collegiate education, Olsen has been a member of the Society for Photography Education (SPE) and the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC). She regularly attends regional conferences presented by these organizations and has also offered her time as a volunteer. Currently, Olsen is the exhibition intern at the CPAC in Lakewood, Colorado.
