Artist / Personal Statement
Mr. Johnson, a mature artist born in 1944 in Hawley Minnesota has worked in Minneapolis since his student days at the University of Minnesota where he received his BFA and MFA both in printmaking. He has since worked in painting--acrylic on canvas and now for many years, acrylic on paper. As a painterly abstractionist working extemporaneously, Mr. Johnson's work references architectural and landscape forms with frequent symbolic elements. His printmaking background reveals itself uniquely in various modes of paint application and in the graphic character of his images that are dynamic and atmospheric.

Hi David, It's so good to hear from you. There were many notable things you said when I was at Bethel that I like to quote (I hope not misquote). There was a long time in which  I was producing hardly any artwork, but the Lord arranged things in such a way several years ago that painting has become my primary occupation. I guess I should post some pictures. I am really enjoying looking at the paintings you've put up: they are as fun and good natured as I remember from so long ago.

I still have family in Minnesota and Anita and I would love to reconnect with you and Marilyn some time when we are up there.
