Baptism of the Lord

I began this painting on feast of the baptism of the Lord, 1/12/2020. After church one of the parishioners asked me what I had been painting during the week. I had to admit I had done none that week, so I began painting this that day. I finished it…

Jesus Casting Unclean Spirits

I was at a loss for what to do New Year's Eve. I didn't feel like drinking or being on the roads with drunks out and about. I also didn't feel much like watching the festivities on television either as I rarely watch television anyway.I decided at 8…

Angel and Demon Playing Chess (Not Yet Titled)

This is a composition I started on canvas, then photographed and worked in Photoshop. I am not sure I will go back into canvas on this or leave it digital. I am going to try doing some different high quality Prints of it and see how that works out.…

Portrait of my mother.

This is a portrait I did of my mother on mother's day, 2019. I have not done many portraits throughout my life thus far, but every once in a while I feel inspired to do so.

Artist / Personal Statement
I have been looking over my artist statement from 2019. I have always disliked writing artist’s statements, perhaps it’s time I change that outlook. Maybe it was not the artist statement itself I disliked, but what I was doing as an artist. So, without further ado, here is where I stand at the beginning of 2020:

Throughout my years of creating artwork, I had been mostly experimental in subject matter and medium. At this point in time, as I approach the ripe age of fifty, I am more confident in what my purpose as an artist is.

I no longer have any desire to create artwork for personal pride or profit. I mostly only have interest in creating paintings, drawings, and 2d digital artwork. The subject matter I choose at this point in time is either religious, Christian themed artwork or work created for family and friends. I never particularly cared about being marketable, and my forays into commercial artwork never brought me the joy and inspiration I have while creating fine arts.
I have found when my job is making art for commercial purposes, I have very little desire to create artwork in my personal time. I much prefer now to have a day job that I am passionate about, yet mostly unrelated to what I do outside of work.

While I do have a website of reproductions of work for sale, I only make two cents per print (only because the site will not allow me to have a zero markup). I will eventually make high resolution images of work available for people to print themselves for free. That is not high priority right now. There is much painting to be done.

God Bless.
Accomplishments / CV
I studied fine arts painting at Pratt Institute for the first two years of my education. I finished my degree in studio art at Stony Brook University in 1995.

I worked as an assistant to a professional faux finisher and mural painter during my university years. Between 1995 and 1998 I had taken part and won awards in several local art shows and fairs. In 1998 I had moved to North Carolina and was represented by Green Tara Gallery until 1999.

In 1999 I moved back to New York and began studying Computer Arts. I primarily worked with 3d modeling and animation from that time until 2015. I ran a 3d art and animation business with a friend and did freelancing work for many small companies, inventors, and individuals. I had done some painting during that time, but infrequently. I began doing mostly personal 2d digital drawings and paintings after my business partner passed away.

I am now working with paint on canvas. My current primary medium is water soluble oil paint. Although I have experience working with multiple mediums, drawing and painting are my main passions.

Hi Dennis. Thanks a lot for your nice comment left on my page.  I appreciate your taking the time.  You have a wonderful sense of design I see in your work. I see you live in New York...I am in Texas, in the country.  I've been invited by a friend on a trip to NYC mid February and am so looking forward to seeing it.  I've never been there.  Anyway, thanks so much.  I also like your statement about not worrying about profit from your work.  I am glad I don't have to support myself with my art...it's a hard business.  I try to help out but I just don't sell that much but like you I have decided that isn't the point.  The point is to glorify God and give back.  God Bless you as well!  Judy
