Artist / Personal Statement
It dawned on me a few years ago what my purpose is in creating visual artwork. It's to help people “see.”

Let me explain. Growing up I always knew there was something different about me, but I didn’t know what it was exactly. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, ADD, and dyslexia. To be sure, this complicated the learning process for me along with other life issues.

Due to my TS I became a visual learner. If I could see it or visualize it, information was fixed in my memory. So, the visual world around me was of huge importance. As I grew older and got involved in photography and business, being able to see beyond what was right in front of me aided in my success in both endeavors.

To say that seeing is important to me is an understatement. It drives most of my activity. Be it work life, home life, leisure, or ministry. I’m usually seeing a mile down the road before most people put their glasses on.

So, what is "seeing" all about? For me, sight is focused on the starting line, vision is focused on the finish line, but seeing – is the landscape in between filled with all sorts of stories and metaphors.

While sight looks at life and vision looks past life, seeing looks through life.

Therefore, my aim is to point out the scenery between both ends by: posing a question, exposing a truth, or, perhaps proposing a solution to some of the issues facing us today.

I've exhibited nationally and internationally and received various awards. The biggest kick for me, however, is when I get to share the stories behind my images and hear how others relate that to their own story.

I am available for presentations, meet the artist discussions, and other appropriate venues.

My wife, Kathleen, and I are lifelong residents of the St. Louis, MO area. We currently reside in St. Charles, MO.

New town old values

Posted on October 2, 2012 at 6:30pm 1 Comment

My brother and sister-in-law recently moved into a relatively new development in St. Charles, MO called New Town. Although it is in the heart of the Midwest, it is somewhat fashioned after Seaside, Florida. It is a small "neighborhood" of homes, shops, gathering places and a church, surrounded by canals and lakes.

I took a drive there the other morning before sun up to see what images I might capture. I settled on the image below. I titled it New town old values. Here's my…
