Artist / Personal Statement
I'm very interested in processes that bring about change. I like how things can begin their life in one state but go on to be transformed by a series of processes leading to an outcome which is almost unrecognisable when compared to its starting point. I often find myself considering the processes that I walk though in life and how they impact me; external circumstances, personal decisions, people and places that we encounter and how we react to these things all influence who we are and how we think. In these processes I like to consider what I have learnt, and in particular I like to consider what I have learnt about the unchanging one: God. I find art is the perfect expression for this as the act of painting is one of process and transformation in itself; a journey of how we get from a blank canvas to a finished masterpiece and everything in between.
Inspiration comes in many forms but there is one thing that remains constant throughout: Soli Deo Gloria is a Latin phrase meaning Glory to God alone. I like to use this phrase on my artworks because when I create art, I try to keep Jesus at the centre and I am glad for viewers to take this into consideration when viewing my work.
