Artist / Personal Statement
A native of Baltimore, MD living in Central New Jersey for 25 years, I have been involved with Art all of my professional life. With an M.F.A. in painting and ceramics, my major creative work has been ceramic wall sculpture, with a focus on depth of color and a rich,
painterly surface.

Over the past seven years or so, I have begun to experiment,
incorporating found objects and fused glass with the ceramic
components. Additionally, I work to create a sense of motion in the
sculpture; my current work is much about the interaction of living
forces.

For me, clay is not merely “ the material that I use”, but a
genuine co-creator of the objects. Working with clay is a relational
experience that is extremely important to what I do and how I create. I
stand as creature with creature in this making process in a very collaborative and feminine approach.

What’s more, I see my current work related to the very earliest forms that we call “art”, objects that are a functional and beautiful part of ordinary life, work that enlivens a space in the more recent traditions of Tiffany, the Arts & Crafts movement and Frank Lloyd Wright. Because of that, my moveable ceramic tiles and murals as well as ceramic sculpture for permanent installation is often designed in partnership with homeowners and those developing corporate and public spaces.

Nails in the Wall Celebrates "Sacred Round" with Sufi Dervishes

Posted on October 20, 2013 at 7:37pm 0 Comments

“You’re like a Whirling Dervish…!”  You may have heard that phrase spoken to someone who was rather aimlessly twirling and rushing around, but the truth is, while Dervishes are real, their ‘whirling’ is hardly aimless.

I believe working with clay does put me uniquely in touch with the earth. It gives insight into many aspects of what it means to be human. It’s no wonder so many cultures, and religions have seen the first humans a “made from clay”.…

Hello Linda

I have been on a sabbatical for the past 6 years so I am now transitioning into "the next phase".  Thanks for connecting after all these years.  If you haven't checked out my Etsy Shop (GardenRhymesStudio), please give it a look.  I just posted my work in the last month. I will take a look at your website in the next few days. Take care, Louise

Hi Linda, I was just looking at your work - and very impressed  - I happen to have an affection for steampunk and I agree with your assessment of it and its possibilities for serious art/craft. And yes I might well make an submission soon - thank you for your consideration. Warmest regards,

Philip
