Artist / Personal Statement
In my work I wish to investigate what calls out for my regard, whether it is a direct response to visual observations made in the natural world or more personal experiences. My process - looking, seeing, and contemplating - is equally significant to the actual works I make. Over the years I have come to understand my process as a form of meditation. My starting focus fluctuates between two opposites: the actual and the immaterial; what is seen in nature and my inner realm. I see my studio process as analogous to Lectio Divina, the ancient approach for reading sacred text. However, instead of reading text, I apply the sacred reading process to my experience in the world.
