Artist / Personal Statement
I paint figures amidst landscapes and architecture in simple shapes and often strong and flat colors. The objective in my paintings (and illustrations) is to illuminate the often-overlooked moments in life with the intention of engagement and narrative, using iconic symbols and styles from my life history. My strong connection to my early awareness of place and color has allowed me to passionately pursue the making of these paintings & illustrations.

Hi Martha: As someone who grew up in NYC during the 1960's and now bemoans the loss of that sense of community - that world now sadly vanished... I find your paintings to be most refreshing - a window to a simpler, gentler, surer more loving time, albeit from the pure perspective of 'childhood' and reverie. I love the personal documentation of family through old photographs and remembered times. But, even the way that you apply line, form and color seems to convey that feeling of the peaceful, innocent continuity of life that marks post WW2 America.

Thanks for sharing...

Robert
