Artist / Personal Statement
As a child growing up with chronic depression and anxiety, I always sought comfort and security. I find a certain type of safety and beauty in structure, routine and the familiar; the people, places, and things I see every day. Recording my surroundings is a meditative process that helps me see the things I know well in new ways and appreciate them more. I seek beautiful moments of joy, love, and nostalgia that are found amidst the every day and are often passed over. I strive to capture moments of hope in the midst of the seemingly mundane or unnoticed using both natural light and color as well as search for knowledge and intimacy of subject matter through both the modern and historical processes of photography and printmaking. Processing what surrounds me enables me to overcome the memories of the past or to stop worrying about the what-ifs of the future, but rather to live intentionally in the present.
