Artist / Personal Statement
Just as a watercolor artist adds water to activate paint on paper, artist and facilitator Pamela Alderman sets into motion participatory art that seeks to rebuild communities. Such interactive work initiates layers of healing processes to bring about brief—but meaningful—experiences for individuals and groups. Year after year, participants respond to the transformative power within Pamela Alderman’s interactive exhibits.

“Your art makes me feel so connected to others. Your work links us all together,” offered one participant regarding Broken Wings. This art installation deals with school violence where participants are invited to attach a purple band and handwritten note onto a paper chain comprised of thousands of similar messages. The visual imagery of linked notes increased this viewer’s sense of connection with others.

In addition to these participatory installations, Pamela creates original corporate commissions, offering either fine art paintings or multi-media works that represent a company’s core values. Her popular senior care projects incorporate residents’ life stories, resiliency, and hope as they engage in an artmaking process.

Lastly, Pamela’s non-profit Healing in Arts (HiA) offers school workshops, community programs, and other hands-on installations like HiA’s sex-trafficking awareness projects.
HiA powerfully uses collaborative art engagement to guide people through various life issues like “letting go,” alienation, bullying, or school violence. As a result, many have experienced release and have gained a sense of new beginnings.
Accomplishments / CV
More than a decade of experience showcasing participatory art from street corners to universities to ArtPrize to the Super Bowl.
