"This is Tabernaculum #14, my latest in this series. I'm exploring using raw pigments and paint together for the first time. Thoughts?"

Artist / Personal Statement
Tabernaculum Paintings Statement

This series is not only a new body of work, it also employs a new process I've been experimenting with, combining acrylic paint and raw, powdered pigments.

These paintings are inspired by the three primary metals used in constructing the Tabernacle and its contents-- gold, silver and copper.

Alchemy Paintings Statement

These paintings are about transformation.

At their face value, like the ancient alchemists, this work is about the quest to transform the metals and minerals contained in paint pigments and palette knives into a more noble element.

While alchemists sought to produce gold, I seek to produce beauty and transcendence.

There is also a spiritual metaphor underlying this body of work.

Like these paintings, as we willingly yield our lives into the hands of our Creator, the layers of our fallen nature are being scraped, sanded, burnished and chipped away over time in order to expose and reveal our original God-given nature and purpose.

The new work is rich and has a sensuous surface -- mysterious and evocative
