Artist / Personal Statement
Rory E. Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University, where she took courses in ceramic sculpture, and a master’s degree in international development from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. Anderson has been sculpting with ceramics for more than 20 years. Using a variety of ceramics, glazes, and glass, Anderson explores the intersection between the spirit and the material with earth (clay), light, and color, using the interplay of these to show both the connectedness of humanity and our connection to the Divine.
For almost 20 years, Anderson has worked as a human rights and humanitarian advocate, traveling to more than 25 countries, witnessing the common perseverance for dignity and the universal, healing presence of art, which provides both inspiration and motivation for her work. Anderson’s faith journey is the source of her life’s work, recognizing that light, beauty, and human connection alert us to the hope and presence of God both within and among us.
