Artist / Personal Statement
Our lives and memories are held in fibers: joy, celebration, sorrow, boredom, toil. Fabrics quietly weave our histories. Trained in fine art, my technique draws from the traditions of painting and quilting. My pieces are composed of reclaimed fabrics and fibers. I developed this technique out of a belief that healing makes all things beautiful — that nothing is waste, all that is has value.
My work is an effort to capture eternal, in-breaking moments in ordinary time and place. We have dynamic relationships with our places that shape us. These places, whether mountaintop or abandoned city lots, invite us with wonder into a second space - the in-breaking Kingdom of God. Through color I explore our entrance interaction with Second Space.
As an artist, I feel compelled to bear witness to these intersections of our histories and the holy through the work of reclamation and restoration.
Nothing is wasted; all has value. Healing brings beauty to what was once thought worthless, revealing the holy in the ordinary.
