Lecture in San Miguel Allende

Mary Jane Miller is fast becoming a voice for exploring new attitudes. Miller has been inspired for the past 25 years by the question, “What, besides spiritual awe, does religion tell us about the our human condition and our desire for the divine? Can we still receive guidance from the a worn out Christ story through interpreting ancient images and text in a new light? The answers she finds led to a new faith and hope for new contemporary images based on that old story, and today that means…See More

Womens Voices, New book IN LIGHT of WOMEN

Mend the Hole in the Cosmos

Begin a New YearMagnificent coastlines which have no buildings, and pristine mountain slopes standing naked but for some weathered trees are both visual comfort zones of peace and rest. The fields grow wheat and oats, the sheep and cattle graze on a thick bed of moist green grass. At first glance the beauty will take your breath away until you realize a few, a very few humans own it all, swapping its production and output among themselves. The beauty is owned by the unbridled greed of the…See More

Artist / Personal Statement
How do Artists transform ideas into our work?
The question is, how can the work transform me into an idea. Iconographers are always trying to paint what we cannot see. Iconographers live in a twisted dimension: as you paint you theoretically become the image. Internally iconographers believe “beauty will save the world”, the beauty of humankind and our potential to see the divine in all things.
Accomplishments / CV
For 20 years I made money, it was a job and a service. I messed around in plenty of mediums and treated clients honestly. I gave them what I thought they wanted as best and creatively as I could. I said yes to everything and every medium, murals, weaving, furniture, etc. At the age of 40, I was invited to an icon writing workshop with an orthodox priest. That first icon encounter swept me up like a wave. From then on, I was driven to reproduce these ancient images.

I appreciate your comments and am happy to be a friend.  (I am very guilty of not spending as much time on the CIVA site as is ideal.)  I enjoyed seeing your lovely work and your "silent meditative" comments regards aspects of working are also true for me!! You may also like the work of Heidi Petersen, a friend of mine. May God bless you.
