How do I attempt to create art that expresses the Light that is Jesus? Just writing the words here reminds me that it is impossible. Impossible without the Holy Spirit blessing our humble work. When Grace Visual Arts team was finished we stepped back and smiled because we saw how the Spirit has blessed our creation and made it beautiful. …Continue

Lemons are Bitter
Lemons on trees are lovely. The tree looks other worldly, full of perfect bright yellow spheres hanging on every limb. Against the green leaves they are deliriously silly somehow. No one can explain to you how bitter they are till you bite into one. Beautiful lemons are like beautiful artists making a living and maintaining a beautiful life. The bitterness for some artist is having a lovely collection of work which has not yet been seen. We…Continue

I had painted 14 paintings to give away last month as an Art Promo as i get established in Elmira, New York as an artist. I had tried a multitude of venues at the local mall, stores, galleries, even a ministry outreach, local Art Center and other media stations. My offers were either ignored or I received a polite 'no thanks'.
After nearly a month of discouraging results at my efforts I was on twitter the other night. I was trying to get my account active and learning how to make it…Continue
Richard Rohr says, “Great spiritual teachers always balance knowing with not knowing. This balancing is called “faith.” I am afraid it has been largely lost in the west in our desire to combat secularists, atheists, and unbelievers. We have lost the effect of faith in an effort to explain it. The Christian churches today largely define faith as knowing, when in fact it means exactly the opposite! Faith is being willing not to know, and still be content, God knows! Faith is a…Continue

Saint Mary, the Saint I Yearn to Be
There are more attributes assigned to Mary than any other image. There is Mary of the Light, Mary of Mercy, Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Mary who births the Wonder Worker, Mary Queen of Heaven, along with; Mary of Good Council, Mary of Graces, Mary of Help, Mary of Health and Mary of Success. I would be content to live in any of these states of being, if even for a moment.…Continue

The theologians of the middle ages deliberated in detail the Forever Virgin condition of Mary. How could this man/god be born of someone as common as one of us? Since Christ is all man and all God, His mother would have to be all divine. The church institution fashioned the idea of…Continue

Hi CIVA friends,
The Grove Center for the Arts & Media (a CIVA member organization) is taking an informal survey regarding artists and their finances.
I cannot shake the sense of power, intensity and energy that I both feel and perceive. The world, all living things, all inanimate objects are made of divine energy of one form or another. Whether 'spirit' is actually the purest of energies can be debated, but it seems to be some form of energy or at least energy like.
Matter, compressed energy, hard things like rocks and steel are composed of microscopic, yes very very small moving parts. All these parts vibrating, all moving in…Continue
