Artist / Personal Statement
My background in Textile Design helps me see patterns, textures, forms and movement in the landscapes, skies and architecture of the subjects that I draw. Living for over 20 years in Inwood NY, the last natural forest of Manhattan, I’ve found a primal and supernatural quality in its landscapes. In the subways you can find a perfect blend of romance and gothic qualities in sunlight hitting cold steel structures with blues, purples and reds all coming to the surface with illumination.

I want people to feel like they really want to take that subway ride and walk through the parks. My mediums are colored pencils, pen and ink, soft/oil pastels and aqua stick oil pastels. Many times I’ll mix these mediums to show a very detailed image taking on a surrealistic vision. I take inspiration from Georgia O’ Keefe, Van Gogh, Lyonel Feininger and Gaugin. My goal is to take a careful and analytical study, looking to capture the supernatural behind the natural world we see every day and to encourage and lift people up. The Creator stamped the color of love into the life, movement and power of His creation and its patterns. The subways, skies and landscapes hold all these patterns of life that are so intricately woven in details.

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year! I came across this post on Linked In that quoted Psalms 139:14,15: I praise thee for the awful wonder of my birth; thy work is wonderful. For thou didst form my being, didst weave me in my mother's womb. (James Moffatt Translation)

I thought for the new year what an image to hold onto!! God didn't make us with any intentions of being a failure, or a work that is low and unworthy, even though those thoughts creep into our minds so often, they are lies…

Hi Len,

I don't believe so. I haven't visited Redeemer in 3 years. But I think your work is interesting. I like your approach to the light variations of the Inwood NY Subway. Very impressionist in use of light and form.
