Artist / Personal Statement
Rob Devens is presently working as a Clinical Business Analyst with Lutheran Community Services Northwest. For a long time he was the associate pastor of Adult Spiritual Instruction at First Evangelical Free Church. During that time he realized the impact that art and worship can have on spiritual growth. Consequently he began to weave art into his ministries at First Free.

He and his wife, Claudia, live in southern Oregon, have three daughters (Sara, Audra, and Laura), five grandchildren, and one great grandchild—so far. Rob is originally from California (which may explain a lot) and has a Master of Christian Studies degree from New College for Advanced Christian Studies in Berkeley and a Master of Divinity from Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary in Fresno.

Before becoming a pastor he worked in a number of art galleries and frame shops—and even spent a short time as a student at California College of Arts and Crafts. He enjoys art, writing, fly fishing, and spending time with his family.
Accomplishments / CV
Designed a website,, to help Christians prepare their hearts for the Christmas season so that the wonder of Christ’s birth might reign—instead of the usual rush and frenzied shopping that usually fills our lives at Christmas. This site contains images from ancient as well as modern Christian artists, along with scripture, readings, and prayers.

Created an installation and prayer pilgrimage, The Way of the Cross, chronicling the events leading up to Christ's death and resurrection. This installation included works of art from the congregation along with prints from artists outside of that local church family. It also contained written and recorded scriptures, prayers, and meditations. The Way of the Cross was installed for the week leading up to Easter two different years and then captured on the website,

Presently Rob is working on a blog, Like Trees Walking (, which contains writings on the spiritual life and difficulties found in attempting to follow Jesus. He works to pair writings and images that will inform one another.
