I did this painting at my cousin Don's gravesite at the Proffit ranch in Evanston, WY. It's probably the most beautiful gravesite I've been to. It was very peaceful up on the hill and the steady breeze was calming. Sandhill cranes murmured as I beheld the spectacular view of the ranch below, the glistening water pooling in the field and the blue-rimmed mountains stretching along the horizon beneath the seemingly endless sky. It seemed the perfect resting place for Don, who in many ways embodied the spirit of the ranch and the wild Wyoming land his gravesite overlooks. Never was there such a cowboy (or buckaroo as he was also known)!
